Funded by the Bonnema Foundation, Zef’s chair is a joint venture of Delft University of Technology and Groningen University. He focuses on the settlement patterns that are marked by the interdependencies between regional central cities and the countryside, and takes health as the vantage point of public health. The northern provinces of the Netherlands are exemplary for this pattern and the primary study area, but the scope of Zef’s work is international and encompasses regions in northern Germany, France, England, Israel… Teams of students from Groningen and Delft will analyze these regions and develop visions for optimizing the synergies between city and countryside.
